5. Summary of Data Reported and Evaluation
5.1 Animal carcinogenicity data
Sudan I is carcinogenic in mice following its subcutaneous
administration, producing tumours of the liver. It also produced
bladder tumours in mice following its implantation into the urinary
bladder. Tests by oral administration in mice and rats were negative,
but the adequacy of the dose level used could not be assessed.
5.2 Human carcinogenicity data
No case reports or epidemiological studies were available to the
Working Group.
