    BINAPACRYL JMPR 1974

    Explanation

Binapacryl was evaluated by the Joint Meeting in 1969 (FAO/WHO,
1970). At the 1974 meeting of the Codex Committee on Pesticide
Residues some delegations considered the tolerance of 1 mg/kg for
cherries proposed in that evaluation to be too high. As residue data
for cherries were not included in the monograph, the Committee asked
the Joint Meeting for clarification (Alinorm 74/24 para. 53).

RESIDUES IN FOOD AND THEIR EVALUATION

The results of supervised trials on the application of binapacryl
to sour cherries in the U.S.A. were as shown in Table 1.

TABLE 1 Binapacryl residues in sour cherries

Application Rate Binapacryl residues (mg/kg) at
                                   interval (days) after spraying

    kg.a.i./ha Number 14 27 35

       0.84 2 0.04 0.06 0.03

A colorimetric method (limit of detection 0.03 mg/kg) was used
    for the determination.

    APPRAISAL

These residues are much lower than those reported for apples,
pears and plums at the 1969 Meeting. In order to cover a wide range of
practical situations, a tolerance of 0.5 mg/kg is proposed.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    TOLERANCE mg/kg

          Cherries 0.5
