5. Summary of Data Reported and Evaluation
5.1 Animal carcinogenicity data
Monocrotaline is carcinogenic in rats following its oral
administration, the only species and route of administration tested;
it produced carcinomas of the liver (see also the section "General
Information and Conclusions on Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids", in this volume).
5.2 Human carcinogenicity data
No case reports or epidemiological studies were available to the
Working Group.
