PARASORBIC ACID
VOL.: 10 (1976) (p. 199)
CAS No.: 10048-32-5
Chem. Abstr. Name: (S)-5,6-Dihydro-6-methyl-2H-pyran-2-one
5. Summary of Data Reported and Evaluation
5.1 Animal carcinogenicity data
Parasorbic acid administered by subcutaneous injection to rats
produced local sarcomas. Feeding experiments in rats where parasorbic
acid was given in combination with sorbic acid cannot be evaluated
because of the relatively low dose of parasorbic acid administered and
the lack of contemporary control groups. A further oral study in rats
was considered inadequate due to the small number of surviving animals.
5.2 Human carcinogenicity data
No case reports or epidemiological studies were available to the
Working Group.
Subsequent evaluation: Suppl. 7 (1987) (p. 69: Group 3)
For definition of Groups, see Preamble Evaluation.
Synonyms
