    ALDRIN/DIELDRIN JMPR 1974

    Explanation

The Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues, at its 1974 Meeting,
requested the Joint Meeting to specify the fruits in the item "Fruit
(other than citrus)" to which the tolerance of 0.1 mg/kg applies
(Alinorm 74/24, para. 45) and requested governments to send the
    relevant data.

    APPRAISAL

Information was received from only one country, where the
authorised use of these compounds is only on strawberries. In this
instance, the tolerance of 0.1 mg/kg is not required.

In view of the change in use pattern of compounds of this type
since this tolerance was first set by the 1967 JMPR (FAO/WHO, 1968),
the Meeting was of the opinion that the proposed tolerance of 0.1
mg/kg for fruit may no longer be appropriate. In the absence of data
from countries in which aldrin/dieldrin may still be in use, however,
the Meeting was unable to recommend limits on specific fruits.

    RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that this compound should be reviewed at the
    next meeting.

    FURTHER WORK OR INFORMATION

    REQUIRED (before July 1975)

Information on use patterns and residues arising from uses in
fruit growing in countries where such uses are approved.
