5. Summary of Data Reported and Evaluation
5.1 Animal carcinogenicity data
Sterigmatocystin is carcinogenic in the rat. It has produced liver
tumours following oral administration and local sarcomas following
subcutaneous administration.
5.2 Human carcinogenicity data
Sterigmatocystin-producing fungi are known to be present in food
grains, but surveys of human foods have not produced evidence of
exposure.
