5. Summary of Data Reported and Evaluation
5.1 Animal carcinogenicity data
Sterigmatocystin is carcinogenic in mice and rats following its oral
administration; it produced lung tumours in mice and liver tumours in
rats. In rats, it also produced skin and liver tumours following its
application to the skin and sarcomas at the site of its subcutaneous
injection.
5.2 Human carcinogenicity data
No case reports or epidemiological studies were available to the
Working Group.
