AGP:1970/M/12/1 WHO/FOOD ADD/71.42 1970 EVALUATIONS OF SOME PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN FOOD THE MONOGRAPHS Issued jointly by FAO and WHO The content of this document is the result of the deliberations of the Joint Meeting of the FAO Working Party of Experts and the WHO Expert Group on Pesticide Residues, which met in Rome, 9-16 November, 1970. FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION Rome, 1971 ETHION Explanation The questions concerning tolerances for ethion residues in tea referred to in paragraph 114 of the Report of the Fifth Session of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues were considered. It was agreed that, because of the variation in the residue levels in tea from different sources, it was impossible to administer more than one tolerance for each pesticide residue. Recommendation The Meeting agreed to delete the recommended tolerances of 1 ppm for ethion residues in tea (blended) and to retain the recommendation of 5 ppm for tea without reference to "tea from particular estate for blending only". It was accepted that the produce of certain individual localities had to be catered for, provided it had been treated under good agricultural practice. The recommended tolerance provided for this.
