PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN FOOD - 1983

Sponsored jointly by FAO and WHO

    EVALUATIONS 1983

Data and recommendations of the joint meeting
of the FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues
in Food and the Environment and the
WHO Expert Group on Pesticide Residues
    Geneva, 5 - 14 December 1983

    FENSULFOTHION

    RESIDUES

    Explanation

The Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues requested the Meeting to
reconsider the definition of the residue. The original data submitted
to the 1979 Meeting 1/ were studied for this purpose. The residues in
supervised trials were measured after oxidation with p-chlorperbenzoic
acid, which converts all the residues to the sulphone of the oxygen
analogue. The proportion of different metabolites was not measured (or
reported) in any of the crops having a maximum residue limit over the
limit of determination in spite of the availability of an analytical
procedure capable of detecting the metabolites separately.
Consequently, the definition of the residue cannot be changed.
