522. Iprodione (Pesticide residues in food: 1980 evaluations)
PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN FOOD - 1980
Sponsored jointly by FAO and WHO
EVALUATIONS 1980
Joint meeting of the
FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues
in Food and the Environment
and the
WHO Expert Group on Pesticide Residues
Rome, 6-15 October 1980
IPRODIONE
Explanation
Iprodione was evaluated at the 1977 JMPR. An ADI has been
established and maximum residue levels were estimated on various
commodities suitable for establishing maximum residue limits.
Additional information on residue levels in grain crops and in
products of animal origin was listed as desirable. Also
information was sought on the effect of processing and cooking.
RESIDUES RESULTING FROM SUPERVISED TRIALS
The requested information was not available at this Meeting.
However some data were submitted on residues from supervised trials
on kiwi fruit carried out in New Zealand in which iprodione was
used according to good agricultural practice: about 5 applications
were made at the rate of 37.5 g ai/100 l with a pre-harvest
interval of 3-4 days.
The residue levels found are shown in Table 1; the residues of the
metabolites 30228 RP and 32490 RP (see Evaluations of JMPR 1977)
together did not exceed 0.2 mg/kg at all treatment rates. The
recovery of the parent compound was 91% and of the metabolites
82-84%. A GLC method of analysis was used.
TABLE 1. Residues of iprodione in kiwi fruit
Year Dosage rate Residues (mg/kg) mean value and range
mg/kg Days after treatment
0 1 3/4 7/8 14/15 22/23
1979/80 3.75 3.0(3.3-4.1) 4.5(4.3-4.7) 0.23(0.2-0.25) 1.8(1.7-1.9)
1979/80 3.75 3.5(3.3-3.7) 3.9(3.7-4.0) 3.4(3.4-4.0) 2.1(2.1-2.2) 0.12(0.11-0.13)
1979/80 3.75 3.2(3.1-3.3) 2.6(2.6-2.6) 2.4(2.3-2.5) 1.7(1.7-1.7) 0.92(0.90-0.94)
From the data summarised in Table 1 the meeting was able to estimate
the maximum residue levels that are likely to occur on kiwi fruit when
iprodione is used in practice.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The Meeting concludes that the maximum residue level listed below is
suitable for establishing a maximum residue limit. The level refers
to parent compound only.
