    COUMAPHOS

    TOXICOLOGY

    This insecticide was first evaluated in 1968 when a temporary ADI
    was recommended.  Short-term studies of the main metabolites,
    including histopathology and biochemical studies, cholinesterase
    inhibition studies and haematological studies, including
    coagulation effects in man, were required by 1972.  These studies
    were requested in 1972, 1975, 1978 and 1980 but were not made
    available.

    The Meeting therefore decided to withdraw the temporary ADI.

    Residues and analytical aspects

    As the temporary ADI for coumaphos was withdrawn, the temporary
    MRLs were converted to Guideline Levels.  These are recorded in
    Annex. 1.
