PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN FOOD - 1979
Sponsored jointly by FAO and WHO
EVALUATIONS 1979
Joint meeting of the
FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues
in Food and the Environment
and the
WHO Expert Group on Pesticide Residues
Geneva, 3-12 December 1979
DISULFOTON
Explanation
At the 11th Session of the CCPR some of the delegations considered the
MRL of 0.5 mg/kg for potatoes recommended by the 1973 Meeting as too
high. New data were received from the Netherlands.
RESIDUES ON FOOD AND THEIR EVALUATION
The data from the Netherlands for residues in potatoes were proposed
in support of a reduction of the MRL to 0.2 mg/kg.
Application Residues in mg/kg 105 days

Data used for evaluation in 1973 were in the following ranges:

19 results greater than 0.2 mg/kg were from 6 of the 22 trials
reported in 1973.
Appraisal
The MRL of 0.5 mg/kg in potatoes has been reviewed at the request of
the 11th Session of CCPR with the inclusion of fresh data, submitted
by the Netherlands. It was found that the proposed 0.2 mg/kg limit
would cover only 85% of the total number of results obtained (during
supervised trials carried out in accordance with the registered use
patterns.
The Panel was therefore of the opinion that the MRLs could be reduced
only in the following circumstances:
a) A change in use patterns had resulted in lower residues, or
b) If extensive data from the worldwide use of the compound were
available, to form a fair basis for the panel to consider the
conditions of previous trials resulting in higher residues to be
atypical.
The meeting therefore decided to re-affirm its previous recommendation
of 0.5 mg/kg for potatoes.
