FAO/PL:1969/M/17/1 WHO/FOOD ADD./70.38 1969 EVALUATIONS OF SOME PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN FOOD THE MONOGRAPHS Issued jointly by FAO and WHO The content of this document is the result of the deliberations of the Joint Meeting of the FAO Working Party of Experts and the WHO Expert Group on Pesticide Residues, which met in Rome, 8 - 15 December 1969. FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION Rome, 1970 HEPTACHLOR Explanation This pesticide was evaluated at the 1966 Joint Meeting (FAO/WHO 1967b).* Particular points about it have been discussed at subsequent Joint Meetings and monograph addenda have been issued for each (FAO/WHO, 1968b and 1969b).* The Fourth Session of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues asked for clarification whether the recommendation for a temporary tolerance of 0.1 ppm for root vegetables included sugar beets. After discussion it was decided to issue the following monograph addendum: RECOMMENDATION FOR TEMPORARY TOLERANCE FOR ROOT VEGETABLES The monograph on the 1968 Joint Meeting (FAO/WHO, 1969b)* did not clearly indicate whether sugar beets should be included or excluded from the category of root vegetables for which a temporary tolerance had been recommended. It was decided that sugar beets should be excluded, because insufficient data had been available in 1968 and none had been received since that time. Attention was drawn to the fact that the monograph issued from the 1968 Meeting (FAO/WHO 1969b)* on p. 197 had asked for data pertaining to sugar beets. * See Appendix II
